Rhoda David

Our Director

Rhoda David has been our Director for eight years, stepping up to the task during a critical time in our history.  Michael David, Rhoda's husband and our former director, passed away leaving his role as leader to whoever God would use for the position. Rhoda had helped her husband since 1978 and knew every detail about the task.  She knew God had planned for her to serve Him faithfully even after her husband's death.  Her willingness to serve and her steadfast work has been a blessing and an example to the rest of the staff in our home.

A native of Haifa, Rhoda studied at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois and then taught music and English before meeting her husband and coming to Bethlehem.  She spent her early years here teaching music at a local school and aiding the House of Hope in every way she could.  Rhoda's ability to translate in three languages—Arabic, English and Hebrew proved invaluable, and it was clear that God had blessed her with an Israeli citizenship to do His work here.  Only Rhoda could drive a "yellow license plate" car and run errands to Jerusalem.  The responsibility that came with the blessing was great, but Rhoda, a busy mother of four, was thankful to God that He made a way for the House of Hope to communicate with Israel during a time of political turmoil.

As Director, Rhoda now lives a busy, busy life.  She relies on Christ for the strength to get everything finished in a day, from doing paperwork to managing our staff to corresponding with our friends around the world.  Her children are grown and all but our secretary, Christina, are in the States.  They miss their Mom and two should return this summer.  Rhoda also co-directs the Bethlehem Bible College Choir, sings in the Olive Tree Branch Choir at Bethlehem University and enjoys spending time each day doing aerobics, her favorite hobby.  We are all amazed at how effective Rhoda is at completing everything God gives her to do each day.

Rhoda loves working here for many reasons, but one stands out—she is a peacemaker.  "I enjoy making everything run smoothly," she says.  We rarely have big problems, but if anything, even a small issue arises, Rhoda has grace and patience to "smooth it out."  Her undivided love for God and her strong love for our family make Rhoda a perfect fit for the role of leader.  We thank God that He gave her a knowledge of languages, a gift for music, a beautiful family, a "yellow plated car", a sweet and patient spirit, strength to take her husband's role and grace for every new day.

Please keep Rhoda and her family in your prayers as she leads us. She doesn’t complain about the busy schedule or amount of work.  Pray that she continues to draw her strength from the Lord and shine for Him.
