Up Aunty May Michael David

Michael David

Michael David was the Director of the House of Hope before he went to be with the Lord in 1999 after a long bout with cancer.  He was a leader, a son, a husband, a father, a servant and a godly example to hundreds of hurting people.

From a young age, Michael served Christ and His people.  Michael's mother, Christine, joined the ministry when her husband passed away in 1961, and Michael and his six siblings ate, slept and fellowshipped with Aunty May and other blind individuals every day.  People say that Aunty May "taught Michael to love the blind."

Michael ran errands and did whatever was needed to aid in the new ministry.  He learned all about the work needed to run the home.  A kind family from Oklahoma sponsored Michael to study business at Birzit University and then in the States, and upon graduation, he returned to his home to continue the ministry with his kind mother and loving "Aunty May".  Michael and his wife, Rhoda ministered in the House of Hope and saw the construction of a permanent facility for our residents.

When Aunty May suffered a stroke in 1975, Michael became the Director of our home.  Michael's faithfulness is mentioned frequently when long-time workers reminisce and speak of him.  Every Thursday, Michael would walk the long road to Jerusalem to attend a meeting of the Brethren Assembly.  Every Sunday, Michael would drive Aunty May to church in Jerusalem.  He was constant and steadfast as a father, husband and leader.

Many workers still talk about the nightly devotions Michael led for staff and residents.  The Lord came every night during prayer and worship and really never left the home.  He helped to build a community of faith here, while showing God's love to every person who walked through the doors.

Michael's wife Rhoda and his children are faithful to serve as he did, living examples of the way he prayerfully led his physical family and his family in the House of Hope. Michael passed away six years after Aunty May—to the day.  The two "good and faithful servants" are still worshipping God together, but now are in His presence.  We praise God for the love he gave Michael for the disabled and for the work Michael completed before going home to recieve his reward.
