Amer Khalawi
Amer is
15, and is mentally and physically handicapped from having cerebral palsy
since childhood. When Amer
started at House of Hope, he was
somewhat averse to learning but has slowly progressed in knowledge of simple
concepts and basic life skills such as respect and self confidence.
His family like the change in Amer and his improvement since first coming
here. He also has weekly
physiotherapy provided by Life Gate (a German organization
in Beit Jala specializing in vocational training for physically disabled
people) to assist his disability and to improve his gait.
Amer's
family were also keen for Amer to be able to learn a useful trade and supportive
of him being trained in the workshop.
So, after school classes, Amer is being trained 2-3 hours daily to learn
how to make holes by piercing wood for bases of brushes. Amer
likes staying in House of Hope and also likes going home to visit his parents at
his hometown village of Wad Rahal, Bethlehem. Amer has
lived in House of Hope since April, 2007.
He likes playing with balls and puzzles. |
