About Us
The House of Hope (HOH) is a faith work and labor of Christian love amongst the blind people (young and old), mentally and physically disabled children and young men. The HOH was started in 1962 by one blind lady, "Aunty May", and Christine David, the sighted helper. The work began in an inadequate rented two bedroom apartment, but children were brought and soon used beds and even the floors. In just a short time, we had to move to larger rented apartments. Before long, blind boys and girls were coming from very poor backgrounds requiring another move to larger facilities.
Some of the landlords had little sympathy for the work. Many were in prayer for us to build our own building for the HOH. Our prayers were finally answered in 1975, when we were enabled to purchase half of an old house with a small piece of land. Needed repairs were made and the blind boys moved into the building.
In eleven years, we built two new buildings. It was a glorious day when the HOH family could be together in one location. Since that glorious day, the HOH has grown to become one of the very few places that offers the disabled a place to learn and progress in their lives.
